Gold remains strong and NVIDIA continues to impress – but this surprising newcomer is now shaking up the rankings of the world’s most valuable assets.
• Exciting shifts in the world’s most valuable assets
• New leaders are becoming the focus of investors
• Classic favorites meet surprising newcomers
The financial world is currently experiencing spectacular shifts in the most valuable assets. While gold confidently holds its top position and NVIDIA dominates the tech sector, a surprising newcomer has caused a stir.
Silver is storming into the top three world assets
Silver made a historic price jump in 2025. According to data from CompaniesMarketCap, the price of the precious metal rose an impressive 174 percent in 2025, taking it to third place among the world’s most valuable assets. With a market capitalization of $4.32 trillion, silver is now just behind AI chip maker NVIDIA, which ranks second with $4.51 trillion (as of January 8, 2026). This means that silver is now ahead of technology giants such as Apple, Alphabet and Microsoft – a remarkable success for a classic raw material.
Drivers of the silver rally
Experts attribute the rapid rise in silver prices to several factors. According to observers, supply shortages are playing a central role as major economies such as the US strategically treat silver as a critical raw material and China further tightens the market through aggressive demand and low inventories. In addition, there are expectations of interest rate cuts in the USA and comparatively low liquidity on the silver spot market. Short-term speculative measures also influenced the price: the CME futures exchange in Chicago introduced measures to curb silver speculation.
Gold and NVIDIA shares: undisputed leaders
Despite the silver rally, gold remains the world’s most valuable asset. The precious metal’s market capitalization is $31.17 trillion (as of January 8, 2026) and shows that the “safe haven” among investors remains unchallenged. Even if the price of gold “only” rose by around 60 percent in US dollars or 45 percent in euros in 2025, the precious metal remains the backbone of the global asset structure.
So while gold defends its top position, the competition remains exciting. NVIDIA continues to benefit from the boom in artificial intelligence and is keeping silver at bay – even if only just. Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies rank well behind; According to CompaniesMarketCap, Bitcoin comes in eighth place with its market capitalization. Silver in particular proves that even classic raw materials can suddenly become the most valuable assets in the world.
