The Hamburg Towers suffered their 13th defeat in their 13th game in the Basketball EuroCup. The Bundesliga team lost against the Lithuanian team Neptunas Klaipeda on Wednesday with 94:98 (44:48).
Ross Williams was just centimeters away from becoming the match winner. The Towers point guard took a three-pointer from far out with three seconds left at 94:96, but narrowly missed. It would have been the icing on the cake for the American with 32 points and probably the first win for Hamburg in their 13th attempt.
Progression is no longer possible for head coach Benka Barloschky’s team, but the game against the Lithuanians underlined the Towers’ upward trend.
Ross Williams on fire
Both teams offered the 1,201 spectators in the Hanseatic city a wild shootout at the beginning, with 49 points in the first quarter. Hamburg were behind 24:25 after the first ten minutes, Williams alone shone with 15 points. However, three out of eight from the free throw line was a miserable rate for the Towers.
Hamburg still played well and was only four points behind at the break (44:48). In the third quarter, the home team stuck with it and shot a strong 40 percent from the three-point line.
Perrin has strong nerves
The Towers threw everything into the final quarter and always had an answer ready. Zacharie Perrin became a factor with his nerve from the free throw line and under the basket. Williams took responsibility in the final phase, but was a few centimeters short of the big celebration.
