Cheers and rejoices, because after two sad years, the Tour of Flanders is back. Without mouth masks. With people. Lots of people – no one doubts that. As with previous editions, one million supporters are expected. But where can you as a supporter best see the riders? And how do you get there? We provide the complete overview.
The start
For the sixth time in a row, the peloton will leave Antwerp on Sunday. Next year it will be possible again in Bruges: from then on, both cities will take over as starting place. From 8.15 am the participating riders will be introduced with the necessary ambiance on the Large market† At 10 o’clock, “Lord, leave!” and a gunshot at the height of the stone square† Spectators can walk around freely and without a mouth mask. The only limitation is that the team zone is still separated. It is therefore not possible to decorate a water bottle or race cap on a cyclist’s bus.
You will find more information about the accessibility of Antwerp here†
The track
Get your racing cap out of the dust and grease your vocal cords, because unlike last year, public is allowed everywhere on the course. The hills are therefore no longer closed. The center of gravity is, as always, on the Oude Kwaremont and the Paterberg. On the Old Kwaremont you can see the riders most often: once when they enter the Flemish Ardennes, around 1.33 pm, and twice in the final, around 3.29 pm and 4.23 pm. Arrivals on the paterberg are scheduled at 3:34 PM and 4:28 PM. Information on how to get to the race’s epicenter can be found in the finish section below.
The arrival
For the eleventh year in a row, the riders arrive in the Minderbroedersstraat in Oudenaarde† This week the organization of the Tour announced that this will certainly be the case until 2028. The city of Oudenaarde pays about 400,000 euros per year for this. The arrival of the men is expected on Sunday at 4.45 pm. At 1.10 pm they already drive over the Market†
Oudenaarde is also the setting for the women’s competition. At 11.50 am the ladies are introduced on the Market. They leave at 1.25 pm and arrive around 5.45 pm.
Just like in Antwerp, supporters are allowed to move freely, except at the riders’ buses, which will be screened off.
The nearest car parking spaces are located in the Meersbloem – ‘t Spei industrial zone, the streets in the center and the NMBS car park at the back of the station. Parking is also available in the De Bruwaan industrial zone. More information about the accessibility of Oudenaarde can be found here†
Fan zones and a Ronde festival
For the first time, Flanders Classics is organizing a mini festival close to the finish line. †DémarrageIn addition to a lot of food and drink, there are also five DJs on the menu. Ideal for those who don’t need to see every second of the race, but would like a danske places†
In addition, there are also four fan zones with food and drink stalls provided. The fan zones are located at the Koppenberg, the Oude Kwaremont, the Paterberg and in Oudenaarde. They are open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Only the fan zone in Oudenaarde opens its doors at 1 p.m.
Police work against ‘cutters’
It is increasingly difficult to practice: the noble art of seeing the riders as often as possible. On Sunday, the sprint of cycling enthusiasts towards their car will be in vain more often than usual. The federal police has announced that in the region around Oudenaarde extra speed and alcohol checks will take place, partly with the intention of changing so-called ‘cutters’.

Tourist price on Saturday
Two years ago the Tour for cycling tourists could not take place, last year it happened in the autumn. This year, tourists are finally allowed to mount their steel steed again the day before the pros. With about 16,000, they will be kicking their ass in the Mariaborrestraat and on the Kanarieberg between seven in the morning and eight in the evening. Remarkable is that ‘We Ride Flanders‘ – as the edition for cycling tourists is called – had about a hundred free places a few days before the start, while other years it’s a struggle to get a number. According to the organization, because it is for some “too difficult to complete such a difficult course”. Although the hefty registration price of 90 euros for the full 275 kilometers may also be something in between.
