1. FC Kaiserslautern has closed the first squad construction site. On Tuesday, the Red Devils introduced a new striker, Norman Bassette. The 21-year-old comes on loan from English second division club Coventry City, and FCK has a purchase option at the end of the season.
Since Ivan Prtajin (29) and Mahir Emreli (28) are not yet fully fit again after injuries, coach Torsten Lieberknecht called for another option in attack. In order to move to Betzenberg, Bassette’s loan to Stade Reims was canceled early. The Belgian scored two goals in 13 appearances for the Ligue 2 club. Initially in the starting line-up, Bassette had to be content with the joker role in the last few weeks.
“With Norman, we are gaining a very talented and young player whose strengths fit our strategic orientations, which are: speed, aggressiveness and mentality. He is hungry to be on the pitch and prove his skills. We are convinced that he will further promote competition in the squad and at the same time can promote his personal development,” said sports director Marcel Klos.
Bassette, who moved from SM Caen to Coventry City for 2.7 million euros in the summer of 2024 and made his Belgium debut a little later in November, added: “I am very happy that I have the opportunity to play for such a great club like 1. FC Kaiserslautern. In the coming months, I want to be successful together with the team and repay those responsible at FCK for the trust they have placed in me on the pitch. I can hardly wait to face the incredible fans in the Fritz Walter Stadium.”
