While serving a sentence of 12 years in prison for illicit association and repeated scams within the framework of the Generación Zoe pyramid scheme – recently confirmed by the Superior Court of Justice of Corrientes –, Leonardo Cositorto is making noise again since confinement. This time, through a video created with AI that circulates on social networks and digital platforms, where he is portrayed as a martyr of an alleged plot.
The montage shows archival video clips of Cositorto interspersed with a dramatic voice-over that narrates: “How is it possible that a leader who inspired millions was silenced overnight? This is the story that few dare to question: the rise and fall of Leonardo Cositorto. Was it power or was it justice? When a vision grows too big, when a message awakens consciences, someone always gets uncomfortable. Who was afraid that Leonardo Cositorto would reach the top? And most importantly, Why? A man, a vision, a future that promised change. Why did the system stop him in his tracks? Victim of a plot? Or an example that should never have fallen? When a power feels threatened, the truth is not always what they tell you.
The video, with a conspiratorial and self-celebratory tone, seeks to reposition Cositorto as a politically persecuted figure, instead of the person responsible for a mega scam that left thousands of victims without their savings. Judicial sources and victims see in this content a new attempt at public manipulation, similar to the audios and platforms that Zoe’s leader has promoted from prison in the past.
With pending cases in other provinces such as Salta (where he already received 11 additional years) and Córdoba, Cositorto does not give up on its communication strategy. This AI deepfake represents an evolution in its efforts to maintain influence and change the perception of its fall, appealing to victimist discourse to attract sympathizers or, perhaps, future “investors.”
