Bremen urgently need reinforcements in the attack center. Some names are already doing the rounds. But one of them is probably moving to another Bundesliga club.

The loss of Victor Boniface puts those in charge at Osterdeich under pressure, as there is only one center forward available, Keke Topp. The 21-year-old is also still waiting for his first goal of the season. As the sole center forward, Marco Grüll is only an emergency solution. “It’s clear that we want to do something,” said sports director Clemens Fritz on Sunday after the 0-0 draw in the friendly against FC St. Pauli. These are the candidates who are currently associated with Bremen.

Damion Downs

How “Sky” reported that Bremen have Damion Downs on the list. The 21-year-old American is currently under contract with Southampton FC. Before this season he moved to the English second division team for around eight million euros. However, Downs was unable to prevail in Southampton. So far he has not scored a single goal in a competitive game for the club.

Damion Downs (on the ball) has yet to score a goal for Southampton FC this season.

He scored ten goals and prepared five more for Cologne in the second division last season. Downs has won six caps for the USA so far and is said to have hopes of playing at the World Cup in the summer. To do this, however, he needs match practice and a sense of success. There is currently a loan on the table, possibly with an option to buy. Hamburger SV is also said to be interested in Downs.

Nelson Weiper

Nelson Weiper from Mainz 05 is considered a great storm talent. He was in the European Championship final with the German U21 national team last summer, which was lost 3-2 after extra time against England. At the tournament he scored four goals in six games. He was also successful in the final.

Nelson Weiper is currently not the first choice at Mainz 05.

Last summer, the 20-year-old almost moved to Eintracht Frankfurt before extending his contract with Mainz. However, the Bundesliga season is not going as hoped. Weiper was used 13 times, but was only in the starting line-up three times. He didn’t manage to score a goal. According to the portal “Deichstube” Weiper should be a candidate at Werder again. It was already rumored in the summer that the Frankfurt team wanted to loan him out to Bremen if they had managed to buy the player from Mainz beforehand.

Michael Gregoritsch

Michael Gregoritsch has been linked to Werder several times in the past. In the summer of 2019, he was considered the preferred candidate to replace Max Kruse, who had left. However, there was no transfer. Last summer there were also rumors about a possible transfer to Osterdeich.

Michael Gregoritsch is expected to play in the Bundesliga again soon.

Instead, the 72-time Austrian international player moved from SC Freiburg to Bröndby IF in Denmark. However, the 31-year-old did not find great luck there. He was unable to win a regular place. He scored two goals in eleven appearances. Gregoritsch is now aiming for a return to the Bundesliga. How “Sky” reports, he will probably not move to Bremen, but to FC Augsburg.
