The 19-year-old had managed to escape from the fire, but braved the flames to help the countryside. Both are hospitalized in serious condition
Tahirys Dos Santos, a 19-year-old full-back for Ligue 1 club Metz’s B team, had managed to escape. On New Year’s Eve he was in Crans Montana, in the “Le Constellation” club, where a fire caused over 40 people. Do Santos was on the first floor and had managed to save himself from the fire in time, immediately leaving the club. Only to then realize that his girlfriend had remained behind, trapped in the flames. He didn’t hesitate and went back inside, risking his life to save her, and succeeded. His agent Christophe Hutteau said this in front of the BFMTV cameras: “Fortunately, Tahirys was on the ground floor and not in the basement when the fire broke out. He immediately managed to escape outside, but, once there, he realized that his girlfriend had remained inside the building. He then went back and threw himself into the flames to look for her and bring her to safety. In addition to being a victim, Tahirys is also a hero and this there is no doubt.”

The young man is now hospitalized in Stuttgart, in serious condition, but is breathing on his own. The girl is also hospitalized: “I can’t say that Tahirys is well, because she is suffering terribly. She has burns on around 30% of her body – continues the agent -. She suffered burns on the back of her head and on a large portion of her body. We will have to wait four or five days to find out more, because in burn patients the first days are crucial from the point of view of infections and secondary infections. We must therefore be cautious, but there are still positive signs and encouraging and we are all at his side.”
