The new year couldn’t have started much better for John and Erica from Abbenes. Frantically saved for months to purchase the increasingly expensive tickets. They hoped to be able to participate in the entire tournament, just like at the last European Championship in Germany.

That almost didn’t work, John says. “The prices continued to rise until we would have to pay 13,000 euros for all the tickets for two people. The final alone was more than 4,000 euros per person. At the European Championship it was still 95 euros. This way you can be sure that there will no longer be an ordinary football fan in the stadium.”

Maximum eight matches

The couple almost got their money’s worth, but then came some happy news. “The KNVB and other national associations have enforced with FIFA that members of the supporters’ associations would receive a significant discount. We now pay 870 euros for all tickets together.”

For that money, John and Erica can not only attend the group matches against Japan, Tunisia and an as yet unknown opponent, but also any matches in the knockout phase.

So they definitely start in the United States, but there could also be trips to Canada or Mexico. And that’s quite exciting, says John.
