Simon Ammann has not yet achieved a second round on this year’s tour. And it will stay that way in the remaining competitions.

Simon Ammann retired early from his 27th Four Hills Tournament. The Swiss association announced that the 44-year-old was traveling home after two stops in Oberstdorf and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The four-time Olympic champion missed the second round in both competitions and finished 34th in each.

Young jumper Juri Kesseli (20) will also no longer be there in Austria. Felix Trunz and Killian Peier are in the squad for the remaining competitions in Innsbruck and Bischofshofen. Both should be given the chance to recommend themselves for further assignments.

This makes the fight for an Olympic ticket much more difficult for Ammann. The 23-time World Cup winner is aiming for his eighth participation in the Winter Olympics. The Swiss team has four starting places for the games in Italy. Gregor Deschwanden, currently 18th in the overall tour ranking, is considered seeded. Sandro Hauswirth (21st) has also been convincing so far.
