Meppel station was affected by train disruptions 94 times last year. This makes it the leader in Drenthe again.
It is the bottleneck of the province, the railway line between Meppel and Zwolle. Not the favorite railway route of many northerners, because the train stops here more often than in most other places in the North. Only Leeuwarden station was affected more often by train disruptions last year, 115 times. Groningen main station is in third place with 91 disruptions.
In recent years, the number of train disruptions at Meppel has doubled. Five years ago, passengers at the station were affected by disruptions 46 times.
Other stations on the Groningen-Zwolle line were affected much less often by train disruptions. In Assen there were 61 disruptions, followed by Beilen (39) and Hoogeveen (35).
In the southeastern corner of Drenthe, Coevorden station is the leader with 19 disruptions.
Meppel may be the leader in Drenthe, but there are dozens of stations nationwide that were affected much more often by train disruptions. The stations most often affected by disruptions were Rotterdam Central (916), Schiphol Airport (715) and Breda station (500).
In the coming years, investments will be made in the railway between Meppel and Zwolle. In July, the Senate agreed to an investment of 100 million in the bottleneck.
