Steven Zuber played abroad for years. In 2025 he moved back to Switzerland. But his time in Zurich ends abruptly.

Former Bundesliga player Steven Zuber and FC Zurich will go their separate ways in the future. As the 2022 Swiss champions announced on New Year’s Day, the contract with the 34-year-old was terminated at his own request. The working paper would actually have run until 2027.

“We regret Steven Zuber’s departure and wish him and his family good luck and success for the future,” FC Zurich wrote on its social media channels. Zuber himself also had his say. “I had a nice and interesting time at FCZ,” said the midfielder. “Nevertheless, I would like to orient myself elsewhere. I would like to thank the FCZ for making this possible for me.”

Zuber returned to his homeland around a year ago after playing abroad continuously from 2013. The former Swiss international spent most of his time in the Bundesliga. Zuber played there from 2014 to 2021 for TSG Hoffenheim, VfB Stuttgart and Eintracht Frankfurt.
