It does not come as a complete surprise that the disappearance of the life-size statue of Harry Muskee in Grolloo is a New Year’s Eve stunt. But who was behind it was a mystery. See you tonight, because New Year’s Eve club De Oliebol from Vledder is claiming the stunt.
In the night of December 23 to 24, the statue of the ‘godfather of Dutch blues’ suddenly disappeared. What remained on the pedestal was a puzzle with the solution: ‘Somebody will know someday’, a legendary hit by the Cuby + Blizzards. With the stunt, De Oliebol wants to bring people closer together and to help them with this, they asked for the help of Harry Muskee.
“Experiencing music together automatically creates conversations, encounters and connections. That is exactly what De Oliebol stands for: creating solidarity and ensuring that people continue to see and speak to each other,” the association says in a press release. The statue will be placed back in its usual place by De Oliebol in the coming days.
Last week, six statues that were located along the old TT circuit were also stolen. It turned out that New Year’s Eve club De Nachtdravers from Donkerbroek, Friesland, was behind this. They also initially replaced the images with rebuses.
