Two German ski jumpers ended up in the top five in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen qualification – another achieved something historic.

The German ski jumping hopes Philipp Raimund and Felix Hoffmann confidently mastered the qualification for the New Year’s competition in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Raimund (135 meters) came in fifth place, Oberstdorf third Hoffmann (134 meters) finished eighth. Domen Prevc from Slovenia once again won the preliminary round. The confident winner from Oberstdorf jumped 139.5 meters.

A highlight on New Year’s Eve was provided by the Austrian Stephan Embacher, who set a hill record of 145.5 meters on the Great Olympic Ski Jump. The jury then shortened the approach by two hatches. Embacher also missed the victory in the qualification because he was no longer able to land the jump cleanly in this distance range and therefore received large deductions from his posture marks.

The veterans Andreas Wellinger (124.5 meters) and Karl Geiger (125 meters) easily qualified for the competition on New Year’s Day (from 2 p.m. in the live ticker on t-online). They took places 27 and 31. “It was definitely better. The skiing was better. That was a valuable jump for me and a nice end to the year,” said Wellinger after his attempt on ZDF.

At the start of the tour in Oberstdorf, the duo experienced a sporting debacle. Geiger missed qualifying for the competition on Schattenberg in 53rd place. Wellinger took 48th place in the competition. In addition to Hoffmann, Raimund, Wellinger and Geiger, Pius Paschke and Ben Bayer also qualified for the New Year’s competition from a German perspective.
