In conversation with Shownieuws, Rob Jetten gives a striking excuse for the juice about his private life. His friend unfollowed him because of an… algorithm reset, the D66 leader believes.

Some celebrities are really very cliché, but other stars excel in the most original excuses for trouble in the private sphere. Consider, for example, Waylon, who blamed his cheating on Bibi Breijman on erection problems, but also Wendy van Dijk, who blamed a ‘third person’ after she liked a hate message about Chantal Janzen.

Striking excuse

Now we can add D66 leader Rob Jetten to that list. The juice channel Reality FBI discovered a few weeks ago that his friend Nicolás Keenan had unfollowed him on Instagram, and in today’s era that almost always means a one-on-one relationship crisis. It’s the modern way of saying, “Figure it out!”

When this came out in the media, Nicolás decided to follow his lover again in haste, but the damage had already been done. In an end-of-year interview with Show news Rob now comes up with a striking excuse. “I think this was my first time on a juice channel, so I know exactly how it works,” he starts laughing.

Algorithm reset

The real reason was an algorithm reset, Rob believes. He needs a lot of words to explain it. “Poor Nico went completely crazy because he only saw content from D66 and Rob Jetten in his timeline.”

“He was completely fed up with it and he thought: I’m going to unfollow you for a week, then my algorithm can be cleaned up and then I will have a nicer timeline with less politics. Everyone immediately jumped on it, with the most exciting stories. It’s fascinating that it can happen so quickly.”

‘That’s how it is’

The juice caused some hassle during Rob’s formation talks. “It was also on a day when I was just here negotiating for the new cabinet. Even the most serious parliamentary journalists wanted to know what was going on. To be honest, we laughed very hard about that.”

“I received tips from employees at Instagram about how you can clear your algorithm without unfollowing someone, so I translated that into Spanish and explained it to Nico.”

Wedding

The gentlemen were actually going to get married next summer. Is that still going on? Rob: “The question is whether it will still work, but when we have a little more time during the holidays, we will take a closer look.”

Where will the wedding take place? “The intention is in Spain because that is where most of the people who are invited live. My mother-in-law now lives in Spain and she can arrange everything for us. She also likes that, that she has the final say on it!”
