Stefon Diggs has to stand trial. The allegations are serious. The New England Patriots professional speaks through his lawyer.
NFL star Stefon Diggs from the New England Patriots faces, among other things, allegations of serious bodily harm by strangulation. According to police in Dedham, Massachusetts, the incident in question occurred at the beginning of December, as American media consistently reported. The allegations became known after a court hearing on Tuesday.
According to an email from his lawyer David Meier, Diggs “categorically” denies all allegations, as reported by the AP news agency, among others. “The timing and motive for the allegations are crystal clear: They are the direct result of a financial dispute between employee and employer that was not resolved to the employee’s satisfaction,” Meier wrote. He did not give any further details. The football professional’s lawyer described the allegations as unfounded and unconfirmed.
It initially remained unclear who exactly made the allegations against the NFL professional. The New England Patriots said Diggs had told the club to deny the allegations. In a statement quoted by US media, the team said: “We will continue to gather information and cooperate fully with the relevant authorities and the NFL as necessary.” The Patriots therefore support their player.
Diggs has played in the National Football League since 2015, first for the Minnesota Vikings until 2019, then for the Buffalo Bills from 2020 to 2023. During this time, he established himself as one of the best wide receivers in the league. He then came to the Patriots this year via the Houston Texans (2024). He plays an important role for the team, which has already secured victory in its division and participation in the playoffs.
