Anthony Joshua is considered one of the best boxers in the world. Now the professional athlete got into a serious accident – with fatal consequences.
British boxer Anthony Joshua was apparently involved in a serious traffic accident in Nigeria on Monday. Two people are said to have died. Several Nigerian media outlets report this in agreement. Joshua suffered minor injuries when the vehicle in which he was sitting with three other people collided with a stationary truck.
Eyewitnesses said the accident occurred around 11am on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway near Danco petrol station in Makun. Joshua was sitting in the back seat behind the driver of a Lexus Jeep. There were three other people in the vehicle next to him.
A reporter from the Nigerian daily The Punch, who was involved in the rescue operation, confirmed that Joshua only suffered minor injuries. Photos on social media show the boxer with injuries in a badly damaged car. A video also shows Joshua being pulled out of the accident car and initially sitting in front of it with his face distorted in pain. The 36-year-old was then taken to hospital for a closer examination of his injuries.
The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. The authorities have launched an investigation to clarify the incident.
Anthony Joshua, who recently made sporting headlines after his fight against internet star Jake Paul, is known for his impressive career in boxing. The Watford-born professional, whose parents are from Nigeria, won Olympic gold in 2012 and has held multiple heavyweight world titles.
