The tennis year 2025 marks the rise of Diego Dedura to one of the most promising talents in the DTB. The 17-year-old won his first match at ATP level in Munich in April, was then allowed to compete at the Masters in Madrid and continued to celebrate notable successes. What clouds the balance a bit: a tournament win is still missing, and recently the form curve has also shown a rather downward trend. But that could be over now.
Diego Dedura will end the year 2025 at the small M15 tournament in Agadir, Morocco. Number 386 in the world rankings started there as the top favorite – and lived up to this role.
After victories against the French Andrea M’chich (without ATP ranking points), the Italians Marco Migliorati (without ATP ranking points) and Iannis Miletich (number 826 in the world rankings) and the surrender of the Bulgarian Andrian Andreev (number 962 in the world rankings), Dedura reached the final.
A local hero, 18-year-old Reda Bennani (number 659 in the world rankings), is waiting for the German on Monday, who finally wants to celebrate his first tournament victory on the ITF tour.
After the summer the form curve showed a downward trend
Even if this plan fails, Dedura should be very satisfied with his week. The youngster recently recorded two victories in a row in qualifying for the Challenger event in Poznan. This was achieved in a main draw at the end of May, when Dedura reached the final in Warmbad-Villach (M15), Austria.
The truth is, of course, that a large part of the later defeats came against better opponents in significantly higher rated tournaments, but Dedura may have hoped for more.
A look at the world rankings shows that the German undoubtedly has exceptional abilities. Dedura is by far the best player under the age of 18 there. In second place is the Australian Cruz Hewitt, son of the former world number one Lleyton Hewitt, at position 736.
