Jordi Cruyff becomes sports director of Dutch football champions Ajax Amsterdam.
The son of legend Johan Cruyff will take up his new position at the beginning of February 2026. “We have reached an oral agreement,” Ajax announced on Sunday. Cruyff will be the successor to Alex Kroes.
Kroes hired John Heitinga as coach at the start of the season and fired him after a series of defeats. He announced his resignation as soon as a successor was found. Under interim coach Henk Grim, Ajax finished third in the honorary division during the Christmas break. The traditional club has not yet found a permanent solution for the coaching position.
Cruyff (51) should receive a contract until June 30, 2028. The son of club icon Johan Cruyff played for Ajax in his youth before moving to Barcelona with his parents. As a player, Cruyff Junior was under contract with FC Barcelona and Manchester United. He was called up to the eleven times.
Jordi Cruyff is currently still working as a technical advisor to the Indonesian Football Association. He also previously worked as a technical advisor and sports director for FC Barcelona. He was active as a coach in Ecuador, Maccabi Tel Aviv and at two Chinese clubs.
