Czech international Tomas Cvancara is returning to Borussia Mönchengladbach earlier than expected.
The 25-year-old was loaned out to Turkish first division club Antalyaspor in the summer because he was rarely used in Gladbach. Now the center forward is returning early after the first half of the season in Turkey.
“We can confirm that Tomas’ contract in Turkey has been terminated,” said Borussia’s sports director Rouven Schröder to the “Kicker” and the “Rheinische Post”. Now Cvancara is expected to leave for the training camp at Borussia Park on January 2, 2026 – and then he’ll go straight back to Turkey, to Belek, to prepare for the second half of the season.
Cvancara’s future remains open
Nothing was officially known about the background to the early end of the loan. According to media reports, there are financial reasons, especially outstanding salary payments. Cvancara still has a contract with Borussia until 2028 and should stay in Turkey until the summer. He hasn’t played much there recently and only scored one goal in eleven games. Whether he can recommend himself in Mönchengladbach and what the plan is for the surprising returnee remains completely open.
Change to Mönchengladbach in summer 2023
After winning the Czech championship title with Sparta Prague, Cvancara was closed in the summer of 2023 Borussia Monchengladbach changed. According to media reports, the transfer fee at the time was around 10.5 million euros, and the 1.90 meter tall attacker received a five-year contract in the Lower Rhine.
At his Bundesliga-Cvancara scored a brace on his debut in the game against FC Augsburg on August 19, 2023, but the center forward often fell short of high expectations over the course of the season and also in the 2024/2025 season: in his 49 league games for Gladbach, most of them as a substitute, Cvancara scored a total of six goals.
Cvancara may now want to present himself to coach Eugen Polanski. Polanski was not yet in office when the Czech left in the summer of 2025. After an unfortunate start to the season, Borussia parted ways with coach Gerardo Seoane in September. Things didn’t go well under Polanski at first, but the “Foals” stabilized in November. However, the last two games before the winter break were lost.
Haris Tabakovic was last placed in the Gladbach storm center. In addition, the return of center forward Tim Kleindienst after another knee operation is eagerly awaited.
