Gabriel Clemens reached the semi-finals of the 2023 Darts World Cup. He wanted to repeat that – had to get past a star player. But he shouldn’t succeed.

Gabriel Clemens was eliminated from the Darts World Cup in the third round. Despite a good performance, the former semi-finalist was defeated by Briton Luke Humphries, who lived up to his role as favorite. The world number two won 4-2, but it was anything but easy. Clemens was always on par statistically, but nuances often gave Humphries the advantage in the end.

After three sets it looked like a clear defeat for the “German Giant” as the Englishman was leading 3-0. But then Clemens turned things up again, won two sets and even got three set darts in the sixth set. But the Saarlander missed this, which Humphries immediately took advantage of. After Ricardo Pietreczko and Martin Schindler, the third German has to travel home in the third round. Only Arno Merk is still in the race.

“I played a good game and was there,” said Clemens on DAZN. “It will be interesting if I make it 3:3,” he said, annoyed about the sixth set. “Then I’m in his head, but I didn’t manage to do that.”

Clement 2:4 (1:3, 1:3, 2:3, 3:0, 3:2, 2:3) Humphries

6th set, 5th leg – Now he needs another break to avoid defeat here. But Humphries starts with 140 twice, but Clemens first throws 140, then 180. From Humphries comes the next 140, but from Clemens comes another 130. But with 81 remaining, Humphries wins the match! What a crazy game here at “Ally Pally”.

6th set, 4th leg – The “German Giant” now has the chance to equalize after sets. And he has three set darts left at 40. But he misses the double three times! How bitter! What kind of chance was that? Because Humphries gets the re-break.

6th set, 3rd leg – Clemens needs a break here now. The scoring is correct for the “German Giant”, while Humphries is really weak. He now plays the leg from the front, but then Humphries does a 180. It’s a match – because Clemens has the break!

6th set, 2nd leg – Clemens struggles with his first dart and has to keep correcting. But the overall scoring remains strong, Humphries is initially lagging behind. But then he throws a 180. Clemens lets up again and stays at 97 remaining. Humphries has 141 remaining, but doesn’t check it. Clemens in turn checks 97.

6th set, 1st leg – Humphries has the throw again and is clearly leading in the first leg, Clemens has fallen far back. But Humphries doesn’t manage a 20 finish, Clemens has the chance for a high finish, but wastes it. Humphries leads 1-0
