THETO LITTLE AMÉLIE
Type: animation ✦✦✦
Direction: Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han
From the Metaphysics of tubes by Amélie Nothomb, the story of a Japanese childhood, that of the Belgian writer, third child of an expatriate couplepianist mother, diplomat father, and of his awakening at two and a half years old thanks to a bar of white chocolate brought by his grandmother from Brussels.
In the country still traumatized by the conflict and anchored to the past, Amélie discovers the world and appropriates traditions (she thinks she is Japanese) thanks to the patient nurse Nishio-sanwar orphan.
A scene from the film “Little Amelíe”
Clearly inspired by Hayao Miyazaki’s animation, the first film by the duo Maïlys Vallade and Liane-Cho Han it is pop and multicoloured, but the delicate cruelty of Nothomb’s writing discreetly makes room for itself in the tenderness of childish discoveries.
