For one half, the outsider from Thuringia was able to dream of their first win against SC Magdeburg since 2003. But then the Wiegert team improved and achieved unchallenged success.
SC Magdeburg won the eastern duel at ThSV Eisenach with 30:25 (14:14). Coach Bennet Wiegert’s team had to do hard work for a long time with the self-sacrificing Thuringians. After an even first half, the favorites pulled away thanks to a strong defense, while ThSV ran out of steam a little.
Eisenach presents Magdeburg with tasks
The game took absolutely no startup time. Eisenach tried to do it quickly, was extremely aggressive in defense and rarely allowed Magdeburg to take free throws. Tilman Leu was particularly noticeable. He put ThSV in the front, but received the second time penalty after just 16 minutes. The game remained close, the SCM initially led by a narrow margin, but was never able to break away because Eisenach repeatedly managed a breakthrough at the front.
And when Vukasin Antonijevic made it 8:6 in the 17th minute, it got even louder. Keeper Matija Spikic played his part. But Sergey Hernández also shone on the other side. The SCM came back again, Matthias Musche scored three goals in a row. And so we went into the break with a score of 14:14.
Tillman Leu received two time penalties early on. Here he falls on a Magdeburger.
SCM defense stands – ThSV is running out of steam
After the change, the Bundesliga leaders showed why they are at the top. The defense was no longer so passive and hardly allowed the Eisenachers to get any clear shots. The Thuringians were only able to score two goals in 15 minutes. And so the SCM pulled away to 19:23. But the hosts didn’t give up, even if their strength was now visibly dwindling.
The hall remained loud, stood and celebrated the underdog, even though defeat was looming. The best throwers at the SCM were Matthias Musche and Omar Ingi Magnusson with seven goals each. Peter Walz, Stephan Seitz and Vukasin Antonijevic each scored five goals for Eisenach.
