Her placement was decent, but Wendy Holdener would certainly have liked to have saved herself the fall in Courchevel. Now she spoke about her condition.
When the American Mikaela Shiffrin won the night slalom in Courchevel, Wendy Holdener caused a moment of shock. The Swiss woman rolled badly at the finish after the first run. Now the 2018 Olympic champion gave an update on her health.
Holdener told the Swiss “Blick”: “I took it easy for a few days.” Holdener celebrated Christmas with her loved ones, as she shared in a photo on Instagram. Her coach Jörg Roten came by to see how she was doing on skis.” On Saturday, the ski racers will be competing in the slalom in Semmering in Austria (from 10 a.m. in the t-online live ticker).
Holdener admitted: “I always said that I would be supple again over Christmas. I didn’t quite manage that. But I’m happy with how it is.” She can still feel the blow on her knee and also her back from the rollover.
Nevertheless, the three-time world champion will compete on Saturday and see how things go. So far she has been on the podium twice in Semmering, but the placings are a little behind. She came third there in 2016 and 2018.
The highlight of the season for the 32-year-old is the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo. Holdener recently told “Nau.ch”: “It’s certainly a big goal to be at the top of my game at the Olympic Games and to be able to show my best skiing. Then a lot of things are possible.”
The experienced ski racer doesn’t want to put herself under pressure – and wants to stay on the slopes for as long as possible. “I always said to myself that as long as I’m healthy, motivated and fast, I want to continue driving for a long time. I’ll let the future come to me,” Holdener continued.
