Upon arrival, dad Frederic came in through the emergency room. Frederic Dierickx: “I filled out some paperwork at the emergency room. Once I was upstairs, I met the ambulance driver. He told me that Ella had already been born. I initially thought it was a joke, but then I saw Ella lying in Sarah’s arms in the room.”
The delivery went exceptionally quickly. “The head was apparently already born in the elevator. Ella was finally born completely in the corridors of the delivery room.” Mother and daughter were immediately taken care of by the team. “Luckily I was still able to cut the umbilical cord myself!” laughs Frederic.
The couple looks back on the events with great gratitude. “Luckily we didn’t leave by car ourselves. The fact that the emergency services got here so quickly was crucial. Sarah also benefited a lot from the MUG employee. We did the right thing by calling the emergency services. You can’t do much wrong with it at that moment.”
Two Christmas children
In the meantime, mother and daughter are doing well. Ella was born at 3:27 am and was the first Christmas child at AZ Sint-Jan. Ella is 49 cm tall and weighs 3,200 kg. It is the second child for parents Sarah Declercq and Frederic Dierickx.
Merel De Blaere and Christophe Bollé welcomed their first child again. Daughter Hebe was born at 10:58 am in the morning, measuring 43 cm and weighing 1,730 kg.
