Always after the departure of Sinterklaas, René literally hangs out the flag. “Then the flag of our saintly man will be lowered and we will raise the Christmas flag.” Within three days he transforms the front garden into an illuminated Christmas paradise.
After his parents-in-law jokingly gave him a light-up snowman as a Christmas present in 1999, a tradition was inadvertently started that has now lasted 26 years.
Creative duo
“My wife made dolls of Joseph, Mary and the baby Jesus with gauze and sheets. At first they were in the front garden without a stable, but I added them later,” explains René. “Every year something was added and before we knew it, our entire garden was full.”
