The stall has done well, especially in recent years. “I’m going out at my peak, I sometimes say. It has never been so busy.” While she sprinkles a generous dash of salt over a bowl of fries, Marja tells us what she will miss most: “The contact with people, the fun. It always felt a bit like a community center here. I’ve even seen people get a date here. Special, right?”

And what is the secret of success? “Fresh products, and everything is of course made with love,” says Marja with a smile. That quality did not go unnoticed. The chip shop received four and a half stars from snack critic Snackspert and finished fifth in the Amsterdam fries test of 2025 in Mokum Magazine.
When the next bouquet of flowers is handed over, Marja can barely hold on. “I have to hold back my tears. Especially when I see these kinds of people who come to me every week.” Yet she is also looking forward to her new challenge in the Almere ice cream parlor. “A bit exciting, but above all a lot of fun. I hope we can create something as beautiful there as well.”
