The largest project in the pipeline in Zuienkerke is the thorough renovation of the De Bommel meeting center in a former school in the Nieuwmunster district. The village view is protected and so the facade remains. But the rest of the building will be completely stripped. The municipality is allocating 1.2 million euros for the study and construction.

Sewerage works

Another 1.2 million will go to sewerage works in the Oostendse Steenweg. The renovation and maintenance works of four listed churches will cost the municipality 800,000 euros. Next year they will start renovating the iron fences around the church in Houtave.

Every year, 120,000 euros also goes to the fire brigade and 665,00 to the police.

Tricky point

A tricky point in the rural municipality is the passage through Zuienkerke village. The road is too narrow for the many large agricultural vehicles that pass by. The current board has chosen not to build a ring. They do want to help invest in redesigning the regional road so that it becomes safer for cyclists.
