Jansen started the tournament with a 6-2 victory over Radek Szaganksi, then he recorded tight but handsome victories over William O’Connor (6-5), Peter Wright (6-5), Krzysztof Ratajski (6-5), Chris Dobey (6-4) and Dave Chisnall (7-6).

It was already clear before the final that there would be a surprising winner. Because the other finalist, Andrew Gilding, had never won a Players Championship title either. Jansen eventually settled with Gilding 8-6 in the final battle.

Jansen is the current number 108 in the world and has only been a professional darts player for a few months. Last year he managed to get a PDC Tour Card. With his tournament victory in Barnsley, England, the young darts player can credit a sloppy 15,000 euros to his account.
