The first report of a gas smell came in around 7:45 p.m. Emergency services, including the fire brigade, responded in large numbers. It was scaled up to GRIP 1, which means that coordination is required between the various emergency services during the incident.
According to a fire brigade spokesperson, it is not yet clear where the gas smell comes from. However, she emphasizes that there is no fire. “We initially received mixed signals. Some people thought they smelled a burning smell, but we did not find any fire in the building.”
Residents in the cold on the streets
The entire building has been evacuated as a precaution. All residents are standing on the street in the cold. It is not known exactly how many people are involved, but according to the spokesperson there are at least ‘dozens of residents’ outside.
It is still unclear when they can return. “We are now mainly concerned with keeping these people warm,” the fire brigade said.
