Former German international Julia Simic is leaving Eintracht Frankfurt to become assistant coach of the Swiss women’s national team. This was announced by the Hessians and the Swiss Football Association. The 36-year-old was most recently head coach of the U20 women in Frankfurt, who play in the 2nd women’s Bundesliga.
The 36-year-old Simic came to Eintracht in the summer of 2023, initially as an assistant coach alongside Friederike Kromp. When Kromp moved to SV Werder Bremen in the women’s Bundesliga this summer, Simic took over the position of head coach for the first time in her coaching career.
Simic with international experience
During her active career, Simic played in the Bundesliga for FC Bayern Munich, Turbine Potsdam, VfL Wolfsburg and SC Freiburg, among others, winning several national titles. She gained international experience at West Ham United before ending her professional career at AC Milan. Since then she has worked as a trainer and TV expert.
“Julia has a lot of international experience and a modern understanding of the game. She will be very good for our team, both physically and personally, and we look forward to taking the next steps together with her,” says Swiss national coach Rafel Navarro about the reinforcements.
Goalkeeping coach Angerer remains
The Swiss association is also continuing the collaboration with Nadine Angerer, which was originally planned until the end of 2025. The former German soccer goalkeeper has been the goalkeeping coach of the Swiss women’s national team since March 2024.
