Defense is taking major steps to strengthen its preparedness. On Tuesday, Defense Minister Theo Francken (N-VA) proposed new air defense and anti-drone capabilities, after drones were repeatedly spotted over military sites in recent months. At the same time, Francken announced that eight barracks will be opened in 2026 for the first voluntary Military Service Year, good for a total of five hundred young people.
