Matches in Europe’s four major football countries, Germany (Bundesliga), England (Premier League), Spain (LaLiga) and Italy (Serie A), continued over the weekend, while no matches were played in Ligue 1 in France due to cup competitions.
Barcelona was at the top in LaLiga, Arsenal in the Premier League, Inter in Serie A and Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga.
BARCELONA WON THEIR 8TH MATCH IN A ROW
In LaLiga, Barcelona won its 8th consecutive victory by beating Villarreal 2-0 away. While Real Madrid beat Sevilla 2-0 at home, national football player Arda Güler of the Madrid team remained on the field for 72 minutes.
Atletico Madrid defeated Girona 3-0 away. Leader Barcelona was 4 points ahead of its closest rival, Real Madrid, with 46 points after 18 matches played.
Atletico Madrid ranked third with 37 points, and Villarreal, with two matches missing, ranked fourth with 35 points.
ARSENAL MAINTAINED ITS PLACE AT THE TOP
Premier League leader Arsenal won 1-0 away against Everton with a goal scored by Viktor Gyökeres from the penalty spot. Manchester City won its 5th consecutive victory by beating West Ham United 3-0 at home with goals from Erling Haaland (2) and Tijjani Reijnders.
Aston Villa beat Manchester United 2-1 at home, while Liverpool beat Tottenham away with the same score. Arsenal, with 39 points in the 17th week of the league, was at the top, 2 points ahead of Manchester City. Aston Villa followed the two teams with 36 points.
BAYERN MUNICH CONTINUES TO WIN IN THE BUNDESLIGA
In the 15th week of the Bundesliga, leader Bayern Munich returned from Heidenheim away with a 4-0 victory. Bayern Munich’s goals came from Josip Stanisic, Michael Olise, Luis Diaz and Harry Kane.
Borussia Dortmund beat Mönchengladbach 2-0 at home, while Bayer Leverkusen beat Leipzig 3-1 away. Bayern Munich maintained its place at the top of the league with 41 points after 15 weeks. Borussia Dortmund ranked second with 32 points.
Bayer Leverkusen and Leipzig followed the two teams with 29 points each.
JUVENTUS DEFEATED ROMA 2-1 AT HOME
Juventus beat Rome 2-1 at home with goals from Francisco Conceiçao and Lois Openda, while Rome’s only goal came from Tommaso Baldanzi. Zeki Çelik played for 90 minutes in Rome. In Juventus, Kenan Yıldız stayed in the game for 89 minutes.
Napoli-Parma and Inter-Lecce matches, which should be played in the 16th week of Serie A, will be played on January 14, and Hellas Verona-Bologna and Como-Milan matches will be held on January 15, 2026.
Inter, missing one match in the league, was at the top with 33 points. Again, among the two teams with missing matches, Milan followed Inter with 32 points and Napoli with 31 points. Roma ranked fourth with 30 points and Juventus ranked fifth with 29 points.
