In concrete terms, the federal government wants to increase the co-payment. This is the amount you pay yourself when visiting a conventional doctor or for some medicines. The PVDA does not think that is possible.
Natalie Eggermont, MP: “There is a lot of medication that is widely used, which is becoming a lot more expensive. Such as pills for cholesterol or for the stomach. People who have something wrong with their heart or diabetes often have to take cholesterol lowering drugs, they really need it. And those cholesterol lowering drugs are becoming considerably more expensive. It is often a doubling of the price. There is therefore a risk that people who have to take that medication will no longer do so. As a result, there may be more heart attacks and strokes.”
“A Shame”
Dirk Declercq is also not satisfied. He is a cancer patient and has to take 14 different medications a day. “It is a real damage. I will have to pay 200 to even 300 percent more for several medications. I need them daily. For example, stomach protectors, I have no choice but to take them.”
