The District Court of Helsinki convicted Niinimaa of the crime in January 2024. Niinimaa appealed the verdict to the Court of Appeal.

However, the Court of Appeal held that Niinimaa had no intention of neglecting to report income to the taxman. According to the Court of Appeal, the background was Niinimaa’s health condition, which affected her life management.
