Climbing, scrambling and running in a Santa suit. It was busy with Santa Clauses around the Iron Man in Vught on Sunday. There was the Santa Fun Run in which almost 400 participants took part.
The Santa Fun Run was held around the IJzeren Man recreational lake. But the three-kilometre-long course also ran straight through the climbing forest. The participants braved inflatable obstacle courses and other obstacles. All dressed up as Santa Claus, Santa Claus or Christmas child.

Among the participants is Christmas father Joep, who participates with his children. “We will do our best to complete those three kilometers. We have trained,” he says. According to him, it is really no ordinary running race. “It’s an obstacle run, so we have to climb and clamber.”
His son Jip also likes it. “Yes, this Christmas suit and beard will also be fine,” he says. Santa girl Elise participates in a Santa suit, but without a beard. “I’m looking forward to it. But I hope I don’t get stuck in these clothes,” she says.

During the warm-up on the beach of the Iron Man, young and old prepare for the challenge. 7-year-old Job is confident, even though he has not trained. “I’m ready,” he shouts. “But I haven’t trained. Just don’t run too fast. I hope it will work. Above all, it’s fun and enjoyable.”

Elise’s fears turn out to be justified. Completing the course unscathed turns out to be virtually impossible. Christmas dad Frank and Christmas son Collin also notice this. Their suit is badly damaged. “We had to go up, over and under everything. The pants won’t survive that,” says Frank. “And the blackberry bushes don’t help either.”
Yet at the finish the pleasure dominates. One of the Santa Clauses crosses the line laughing. “It was tough and challenging,” he says. “But above all very nice. Now quickly to the hot chocolate.”
