PSV’s first half of the season is looked back on with satisfaction. On Sunday, FC Utrecht was defeated 1-2 and PSV took the record for the most consecutive away wins. Peter Bosz and Mauro Júnior are not so concerned with that, they said at the press conference after the match. Bosz says he wants a replacement for Joey Veerman, because he is almost certain to leave PSV.
PSV managed to win fourteen away games in a row, a record in the Eredivisie. “We try to win all the games. We have now broken that record, but we just want to play football and win, every game,” says Mauro Júnior, who does not seem very impressed. Coach Peter Bosz also does not attach much importance to the record: “Home or away does not matter. We want to push and play dominant football.”
For a moment it seemed as if PSV were not going to tighten the record at all. At halftime, the Eindhoven team faced a 1-0 deficit. So it was up to Bosz to boost his team at half-time: “Starting a match well is what you insist on as a coach. We did that too, but then it drops away and that really has to do with pace. I also said at half-time that not one, but two teeth needed to be added.”
In the end, PSV turned the match around and the score was 1-2: “Winning these kinds of matches is the best feeling you can have. We have now defeated AZ, Twente, Feyenoord and FC Utrecht. We have done well, this will be an excellent Christmas,” says Bosz.
PSV goes into the winter break with a wide lead as the leader, but Bosz also knows that the championship is not a given: “I think you should always be humble and cherish the points you have. But we must also realize that we are far from there yet, we also saw that last year.”
Is Joey Veerman leaving?
Naturally, several questions were asked about Joey Veerman. The midfielder recorded another assist on Sunday, but is said to be on the verge of a transfer to Turkey, where Fenerbahçe wants to pay more than twenty million for the playmaker. Mauro Júnior asked his teammate about the transfer: “I asked Veerman whether it is true or not, but you have to ask him for the answer.” Peter Bosz then laughs: “This will be a good trainer later!”
Bosz himself also spoke to Veerman: “I’m not going to give him advice. I don’t know at all what considerations he makes, so I don’t think I should put myself in his shoes. It’s his career, he will undoubtedly talk about it with people around him.”
If the Volendammer actually leaves, Bosz wants a replacement: “Then we will look for a replacement. If you bring in a new player, he often needs time, so we will also have to do it with the boys within the club.”
The 27-year-old midfielder was surprised when he was substituted. “Veerman did not expect that he would get a public substitution. If you see what he has already meant for the club, then he is a footballer who is very important for PSV,” said a praising Peter Bosz.
