The season has been a bit of a disappointment for Newcastle United so far. Nick Woltemade gave the “Magpies” a ray of hope on Saturday, but could not prevent the setback in the end.
Draw instead of a home win: Newcastle United lost a 2-0 lead against Chelsea on Saturday afternoon and had to settle for a 2-2 draw in the end. Nick Woltemade scored both goals for the “Magpies” from the north of England, but Reece James and João Pedro equalized for Chelsea.
DFB star Woltemade took advantage of an opportunity in the fourth minute when he was there after a save from Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and put the ball into the net. The hosts dominated the early stages and increased the score in the 20th minute when Woltemade maneuvered a cross from Anthony Gordon into the Chelsea goal. Shortly before half-time, the striker narrowly missed out on a hat-trick when he was unable to put another assist from Gordon in the goal.
After the break, Chelsea found their way into the game better. Reece James shortened the score in the 49th minute with a precise free kick. The equalizer came in the 66th minute when German international Malick Thiaw slipped in a duel with João Pedro and the Brazilian ran towards the goal alone and scored. Despite the draw, Chelsea remain in fourth place while Newcastle remain stuck in mid-table.
