Christmas is a period of generosity and doing just that little bit more for the people around you. NH makes it easier for you to get into the true Christmas spirit, with the attractive requests from NH Helpt.
Loving Christmas wish
Receiving handwritten Christmas cards is so special in a world full of apps, emails and text messages. This especially applies to people who have been far from home for years, such as the Ukrainians who had to flee their war-torn country.
NH reporter Tom van Midden has a big heart and during this dark period he thought about a group of Ukrainians in a Zaanse shelter. Local residents help where they can, he says, but the group’s life is full of fear and uncertainty about the people still in Ukraine.
To encourage them, Tom asks all North Hollanders to send a Christmas card with a loving wish to the shelter. Will you also participate? You can find the postal address here.
Having Christmas dinner together
There are all kinds of reasons why people can’t celebrate Christmas. Sometimes it’s because they don’t have people around them to spend Christmas with, other times there is no money.
Stoelvrij Heemskerk hopes to change that: they make contact between people who have a seat available for such a person and those who need a Christmas among the people.
You can register for a cozy seat at the Christmas dinner, or offer a place at the table via NH Helps or the website of Stoelvrij Heemskerk.

Zaan elderly people who do not want to spend Christmas alone are in luck: 19-year-old Nikki organizes a Christmas dinner for elderly people without Christmas plans in the Zaans Cultuurhuis in Koog aan de Zaan.
There is no charge for this, but if you can cook or bake something delicious to contribute to the dinner, it would be greatly appreciated. More information about this Zaanse Christmas dinner can be found here.
Living advent calendar
Zoveel Zaans is organizing a living advent calendar in December, which should make Zaandam even more fun this month.
Every day of this month a door opens to a warm living room. A local resident opens his or her home for an hour and a half for a warm meeting with neighbors. This could be an introduction or a conversation, while enjoying something warm such as coffee, tea, soup or mulled wine.
Participation is free and you can join as often as you want. More information can be found via the website of Zoveel Zaans and NH Helps.
