The three suspects were tried two weeks ago for the fatal argument in the evening of February 12, 2024.

A 19-year-old man from Purmerend was killed and a peer from Medemblik was seriously injured. The public prosecutor demanded prison sentences of up to eighteen years. A total of four suspects were on trial. Because one of them is a minor, the case was handled behind closed doors.

On the evening in question, the police received a report of a fight at Purmerend station around 8 p.m.

Officers found two seriously injured boys there. One of them died that evening from his injuries. The other suffered permanent physical injuries.

The suspects – a 19-year-old Amsterdammer, a 21-year-old Purmerend man and a 20-year-old man living in Belgium – drove to Purmerend that evening to have a prearranged confrontation with another group. They had a firearm and wore face masks.

Argument escalates

Things escalated in the tunnel at the station and several shots were fired. Marouane van E. from Purmerend fired the first two shots, according to justice.

Tayron DM from Amsterdam then took over the weapon from him. Van E. was sentenced to eleven years and nine months in prison. That punishment is not only for the shooting incident in Purmerend, but also for street robberies and open violence.

DM must go to prison for nine years and ten months. He is not only held responsible for complicity in manslaughter and attempted manslaughter, but also for open violence in another case.

The minor suspect stabbed the injured victim with a large knife after he was shot. The suspect was fifteen years old at the time and was sentenced to juvenile detention and juvenile TBS.

The fourth suspect received 270 days in prison, of which 170 were conditional. He has now served that sentence in pre-trial detention.
