A car crashed into a lamppost on the Weerdingerkanaal Noordzijde in Nieuw-Weerdinge last night. Two people were injured, one of whom had to be taken to hospital.
Before the car came to a stop against the lamppost, a parked car was also hit. The road was largely strewn with debris, causing the police to temporarily close the Weerdingerkanaal Noordzijde last night for investigation and clean-up work.
The police assume that a traffic dispute preceded the collision. “The conflict may have started at a gas station on the Hondsrugweg in Emmen,” says a spokesperson. From there, several cars are said to have driven towards Nieuw-Weerdinge.
Further investigation must reveal what exactly happened.
