The board of the Finnish Olympic Committee has confirmed the second selections for the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, the Olympic Committee says in its press release.
Eight athletes were named to the Finnish Olympic team in the second selection group.
Alpine skiing was chosen Eduard Hallberg, Elian Lehto and Erika Pykäläinenfor cross-country skiing Johanna Matintalo and Arsi Ruuskanenan ice dance pair for figure skating Juulia Turkkila/Matthias Versluis and combined skiing Eero Hirvonen.
– We follow the principle of flexible selection. With the selections prepared in cooperation with sports federations, we want to support the preparation of athletes who have given sufficient performances for the Games and give them the opportunity to start focusing on the Olympics already at this stage, top sports director Janne Hänninen says in the announcement.
Currently, 17 athletes have been named to the Finnish team, as well as the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams.
In the first selection of the Finnish team on September 29, the team was named Suvi Minkkinen, Anni Kärävä, Elias Syrjä, Jasmi Joensuu, Iivo Niskanen, Kerttu Niskanen, Krista Pärmäkoski, Lauri Vuorinen and Ilkka Herola.
– Overall, the size of the Finnish Olympic team will be around 100 athletes, which is the same size as the average in the 21st century. We are living through the most intense time of screening, and the vast majority of athletes will be named on the last team selection day on January 23, Hänninen concludes.
The Olympic Games will be held in Italy from the 6th to the 22nd. February 2026.
