A new stable may definitely be built at a veal calf farm in Drogterstoringen. A neighbor had objected to this, but this was dismissed by the Council of State.

With the ruling, the livestock farmer can continue with his innovation plan. He wants to break ground as soon as possible and build a large new stable south of the current stables and significantly expand the number of calves. There are about three hundred calves in the old stables. With the new stable, the partnership wants to increase the number of veal calves to 1,485 animals.

The neighbor said earlier during the lawsuit that the municipality previously forced him to build his new stable in a north-south direction. While the livestock farmer can now build his new stable in an east-west direction.

In addition, according to the man, the municipality would not do anything about the leaking manure cellars of the old stable. According to the Council of State, the environmental permit only regulates the construction of the new stable and does not regulate anything about the old stable, let alone the manure cellars.

If the neighbor is sure that his neighbor’s manure pits are leaking, then that is a matter of enforcement. The highest court cannot rule on this in this licensing procedure.
