The Norwegian biathlon team is battling a wave of illness before the end of the year in the World Cup.
Overall World Cup winner Sturla Holm Lægreid was missing from training in Annecy, France on Wednesday.
“He thought about whether he should train or not, but then stayed at home today so he still has another day. We assume that he will be at training tomorrow,” Norway national team manager Per Arne Botnan told the TV channel “NRK”.
Uldal is missing from the annual financial statements
Martin Uldal has to miss the end of the year in the Biathlon World Cup due to illness. The 24-year-old finished second in both the individual and the sprint at the start of the season in Östersund, Sweden.
Isak Frey is also currently suffering from a cold, but should be able to train in France on Thursday. The men start the sprint on Friday.
“We are not satisfied with it,” said national team manager Botnan regarding the wave of illness: “I think overall we are doing quite well, but we have now tightened the measures a little and taken additional precautionary measures.”
Biathlon World Cup takes place in France
In Annecy, France, two sprint races, two pursuit races and two mass starts are on the program from Thursday to Sunday. Then we go into the Christmas break before continuing after the turn of the year in Oberhof (January 8th to 11th) and Ruhpolding (January 14th to 18th).
The Norwegian Johan-Olav Botn currently leads the overall World Cup with 365 points ahead of the Italian Tommaso Giacomel (298) and Eric Perrot (280) from France.
With Laegreid (6th), Uldal (8th) and Vetle Sjåstad Christiansen (9th), three other Norwegians are currently in the top 10.
The Norwegian team is actually in a state of change, as two legends of the sport, Johannes Thingnes and Tarjei Bø, ended their careers last spring.
