Next year the World Cup will take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico. The participating teams can look forward to big winnings.

The world football association Fifa has approved record bonuses of 727 million US dollars (around 620 million euros) for the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico. This sum represents an increase of 50 percent compared to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and is intended to provide additional motivation for the participating teams.

Of the approved 727 million US dollars, 655 million (around 558 million euros) will flow into the staggered success bonuses, which will be distributed based on final placings. The world champion receives 50 million US dollars (around 43 million euros), while the finalist receives 33 million US dollars (around 28 million euros). The teams in places 33 to 48 don’t go away empty-handed either and will each receive nine million US dollars (around 7.5 million euros). In addition, all 48 participating teams will receive 1.5 million US dollars (around 1.2 million euros) to cover preparation costs, as FIFA announced.

Fifa President Gianni Infantino emphasized in a press release that the upcoming World Cup would “also be groundbreaking in terms of its financial contribution to the global football community.” In addition to the bonuses for the World Cup, the Fifa Council has also decided to further promote youth football. New festival-style U15 tournaments for boys and girls are being introduced and will be open to all 211 Fifa member associations.

In light of global political tensions, the FIFA Council has also approved the establishment of a post-conflict reconstruction fund. These measures are intended to both strengthen international football and contribute to stability in conflict-affected regions.
