The news of the soldier’s suicide 21 years old within the premises of the Olivos Presidential Estatewhere he carried out surveillance functions, not only shocked the authorities and the federal Justice system, but also ignited an intense discussion on social networks, where possible causes, responsibilities and transparency of the case were debated. The incident, which occurred in the early morning of December 16 and is under investigation by the federal court of Sandra Arroyo Salgadowas widely commented and shared on platforms such as X, Facebook and Instagramgenerating everything from messages of pain to theories and criticism towards the Government and institutions.
On the digital scene, many users shared informative publications that summarized the events and cited the official hypothesis of suicide based on a letter found next to the body of the young soldier, identified in several media as Rodrigo Gomez, intended for Chacabuco Squadron of the Horse Grenadier Regiment. These publications, both on news pages and on citizen accounts, were amplified with comments of condolence towards his family and reflections on mental health in the security forces.
However, in parallel, critical reactions and conspiratorial narratives also emerged that questioned the official version, pointing to the symbolic location of the event—the presidential residence of President Javier Milei—as a reason for suspicion about the real circumstances of the death. In some groups, these theories circulated with comments suggesting a lack of transparency or attempts to hide information, although these versions are not supported by judicial evidence and have not received coverage in traditional media.
The alleged reasons behind the soldier’s decision to take his life, according to the letter found next to his body, revolve around serious economic problemswith debts that, according to media that consulted the young man’s credit profile, could be around two million pesos with various financial entities, a burden that is difficult to sustain with the military salary and that would have generated deep personal anguish.

In that letter, addressed to his family and his comrades, the soldier would have said goodbye and acknowledged those financial obligations, which reinforces the hypothesis that economic pressure may have influenced his extreme decision. The letter was one of the elements that led the Justice and security forces to consider suicide as the predominant hypothesis, although the official investigation remains open and the result of the autopsy is awaited.
As for the family members, the first journalistic reports barely mention that the letter was addressed to them and their comrades-in-arms, but no additional details regarding his personal situation or public statements have been released.in respect of privacy and the judicial process. Social networks, while expressing solidarity, also reflected collective anxiety for clear and precise answers about the context surrounding this tragedy.
