The intestine can stay young longer. Two studies published on Nature Aging And Nature Cell Biologythe result of the collaboration between University of Turin and Leibniz Institute on Aging – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) in Jena. Research has analyzed the mechanisms that cause the intestine to “age”, increasing the risk of colon cancer and reducing the ability to regenerate, but above all they have explained how this process can be slowed down. An important discovery, because the intestine is one of the most dynamic tissues in the human body: with age, however, it loses efficiency, becomes more fragile and more exposed to inflammation, infections and tumors. Leading the work was Professor Francesco Neri’s group, which has been involved in the field for years study of aging first in Germany and then in Turin, with an integrated approach that brings together genetics, metabolism and cellular regeneration.
