Wendy van Dijk wants to shift her focus completely to acting now that her career as a show presenter is clearly coming to an end. We now even hear her flirting with streamers like Netflix…

It is very painful for everyone when you reach a point where people are simply no longer interested in you, and that is no different than Wendy van Dijk. For years she was one of the big stars of studio entertainment, culminating in The Voice of Holland, but in the past year she has done virtually nothing in that field.

Self-conscious

Her employer SBS 6 is mainly busy with Today Inside and setting up spin-offs such as Nieuws van de Dag and De Oranjezomer. Right-wing current affairs work for the channel’s target group, and so the studio lights shine considerably less on Wendy and her show stuff. Painful, but she deals with it very openly and self-consciously in the media.

Wendy will be allowed to present So You Think You Can Dance in the new year, although she will be relegated to Net5 for that. “It is something I am really looking forward to. It used to be my favorite show to watch; it is great that new dance talent is given a stage,” she says in The Telegraph.

What does Talpa say?

Rumor has it that Wendy’s contract extension at Talpa was accompanied by a significant salary reduction. “When I signed my current contract, it was already clearly stated that those big entertainment shows, which used to be my thing, are becoming a lot less. You see that at Talpa, but also at RTL, where even The Voice no longer has live shows.”

How does she see her future? Well, maybe with a streamer, she hints. “The focus is more on reality and talk shows, and there is also a shift to online. That is also why I think: let me act! This is also possible with streaming services that are increasingly doing more in that area.”

Homesick

Is Wendy sad that the heyday is clearly behind her? “I still look back on it with great pleasure and consider it an honor that I was able to do it. And you never know what will happen next. But as it was in my busy times, with all those live shows in a row or even at the same time, I really wouldn’t be able to keep that up now.”

“I am sometimes offered programs, but I should also be honest if it is not for me. And it also gives me space to invest time in my own WendyOnline platform.”
