For the German curling duo Pia-Lisa Schöll and Joshua Sutor, all hopes of Olympic qualification are gone.

Despite the win without a fight against Austria, who did not compete due to illness, the mixed doubles in Kelowna, Canada, no longer have a chance of a ticket to Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo.

With two wins and three defeats after five group games, progress is no longer possible. In the eight-man relay A, Schöll/Sutor should have finished at least second.

This means that only a selection from the German Curling Association (DCV) is there in Italy. The DCV men had already completed their Olympic qualification at the World Championships last April, but the women failed.

Schöll/Sutor had beaten Latvia at the start (6:4), but then suffered defeats against Turkey (4:6) and leaders South Korea (2:8). In the decisive play-offs in Kelowna, only the two group winners play for the first Olympic ticket, the loser then plays against the winner of the duel between the group runners-up.
