Jamal Musiala returned to the pitch six months before the German national team’s opening World Cup game against Curaçao. 164 days after his serious injury in FC Bayern’s Club World Cup game against Paris Saint-Germain, the 22-year-old completed part of the team training with the Munich team again this morning.
FC Bayern writes that Musiala was “warmly welcomed by his teammates.” The hopeful was “first allowed to run through the line of his teammates” before he took part in the warm-up and some passing exercises. The offensive player then continued his individual rehabilitation measures, the record champions said in a statement.
Bayern are currently completing the last week of preparation of the year. At the end there will be a guest appearance at 1. FC Heidenheim on Sunday at 5:30 p.m. before the winter break. Coach Vincent Kompany wants to put “zero pressure” on Musiala or the medical department, as he recently said before Munich’s 2-2 draw against Mainz in the Bundesliga. But he would like Musiala to be able to “hopefully do a few training sessions before Christmas” after his serious injury.

“That would just be nice in terms of the feeling for the team and also for him,” said Kompany, especially with a view to the “mental” component. Musiala will play his first minutes again in January. It remains to be seen whether there will be enough for the starting eleven again. “That would be an ideal plan for us,” explained the 39-year-old coach.
