RRome, 16 December. (askanews) – “Father Mother Sister Brother” arrives in Italian cinemas on December 18, the film by Jim Jarmusch which won the Golden Lion at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. The feature film by the master of American independent cinema is constructed as a triptych: three stories about adult family relationships, between children, their rather distant parents, between brothers.

The feature film offers a series of intimate portraits, with characters observed without judgement, as the director has always done. Between unsaid words, suspended dialogues, flashes of irony, Jarmush’s human comedy is made of smiles, melancholy, a taste for the surreal. The three stories are set in as many countries: Father in the north-east of the United States, Mother in Dublin, Sister Brother in Paris. The cast includes many great actors, including Adam Driver, Tom Waits, Charlotte Rampling, Cate Blanchett.

Jarmush himself defined “Father Mother Sister Brother” as a sort of “anti-action film which with a fine and subdued style is meticulously constructed to allow the accumulation of small details. Almost like flowers carefully arranged in three delicate compositions”.
